”It get’s dark outside this time of year, and lights are extremely important when riding your bike.
The standard combination of one white light in the front and one red light in the rear is effective, and sometimes enough to ensure proper visibility of yourself and of the road ahead. But this setup does not properly define the space the cyclist is taking. When sharing roads and paths with other users, I feel this is important, specially in places with poor street lighting.
The Spanninga Visio XB lights are designed to be installed on the handlebar ends, which are, in 99% of the cases, the widest points on your bike. They define your width to other road users behind you, making it clear to them the space you are taking up on the road or path. The lights can be used both in flat and drop handlebars, and also increase side visibility, with light patterns both backwards and sideways.
I have now used these lights for 3 years on my gravel bike, during the dark season. I have noticed that when using these lights, and specially in poorly lit areas, cars approach at much lower speeds, and at greater distance. Also, when used with the standard seatpost or rear rack light, it creates and unusual 3 light pattern that is not common on roads and paths, which is more noticeable and raises attention of other users.
The lights are operated with standard batteries, meaning that the lights need to be removed in order to change the batteries. However this inconvenience hasn’t been much of an issue. The lights are not so powerful that would drain the batteries fast, and depending on use, they can last pretty much the whole season.
If you ride through the winter and/or in poorly lit areas, and are looking for extra visibility and safety, I would recommend the Spanninga Visio XB light set.”
